Staying Safe With Social Media

Almost everyone uses social media, whether it’s for your own business, your own personal use, or to keep up to date with friends and family. While our lives may be run by Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and RSS feeds, we must be cautious of what we say or do on these very public websites. Specifically with Facebook, a genius networking tool invented to keep friends in touch and reunite you with your elementary school sweetheart. Utilizing this networking tool could be very helpful however it could also be detrimental.
It’s been reported, across the web and in University job-prep courses, that Facebook is not as private as people think. Many companies hire employees to specifically hack into pages to see what’s behind your resume and J.Crew suit.

Google vs. Facebook

If Facebook and Google were in a website popularity contest, who do you think would win?

Well, according to a recent article in Newsweek, Facebook (for the first time ever), has had more online trafficking than Google. Is that even possible? With social media all the rage, you cannot really be surprised by the numbers. Everyone is on Facebook. You, your friends, your mom, your friend's mom, and even your dog have their own profiles nowadays.

We go on the Internet for basically one main reason: to find information. We go on our bank sites to check our balances, clothing sites to find a new cute shirt to buy, and ticketing sites to find out when our favorite band is playing in town. But with social media well underway, we have found a whole new aspect and reasoning to go online: to find out what is going in people's lives. It is safe to say that people are nosy. Everyone wants to find out what is going on with one another and gain insight into their lives. But hey, we cant help it (we're human)! Facebook is the people version of Google, which is probably why more people are checking their profile recently than submitting search inquiries to Google.

Response Speaks on Social Media

Tarra Del Chiaro (pictured here dropping some knowledge about Facebook) and I were featured speakers at the DKI Northeast Chapter meeting at Mohegan Sun where we spoke about social media. Our presentation to the group focused on how businesses can utilize the power of social media to connect with their current and potential customers and the many different ways that even a restoration company can benefit from a strong social media presence. One restoration company even gave an anecdote of how they heard about fires by following firemen on Twitter.

This was actually the third time over the past year that we've spoken in front of members of DKI. Special thanks to Northeast Chapter President Jeff Sabel of Able Restoration (who is also our client) for the invitation to speak and great hospitality.

One Last "Response"

NOTE: To add dramatic effect, please play the video while reading this post.

Tennis legend Arthur Ashe once proclaimed, "Life, I believe, is a succession of often suddenly realized stages, of fresh beginnings for which one has constantly to be prepared for." Although the past seven months have provided me with an overall great experience with countless memories and the necessary framework for my future endeavors, it saddens me to report that I will be leaving Response Marketing today. With that being said people in the blogosphere, this will be my final blog entry under the Response brand.

As my final hours at the agency approach, I want to first and foremost, thank everyone at Response for their endless support, asssistance, and guidance. The team members had taken me under their wing, showed me the ins and outs of the industry, and treated me like one of their own. The memories made while interning have been and will remain instilled within me for the years to come.
Why is Beav, the "super intern," leaving you ask? At this point in my young and hectic life, I have a plethora of obligations to my undergraduate coursework and an endless list of things that need to be completed in my early years. Right now, my top priority is to complete my collegiate studies and potentially work toward graduate school; thus, it is imperative I reprioritize my responsibilities at this time.

Over the course of stint at Response, I have acquired an almagamation of first-hand experiences that I would not have been able to have in other professional settings. The creative and vibrant ambience that Response possesses provided me with an ideal environment to explore my passion in marketing. The team here allowed me to partake in the brainstorming sessions, develop advertising copies, and manage several accounts; whereas, most interns in the corporate world fetch coffees, make copies, and do menial labor, I was given the rare and most exciting opportunity to take on innovative responsibilities. I encourage all of you undergraduates out there to consider and apply for an internship at this full-service marketing firm...it will be well worth it!
I want to thank each and every one of my coworkers for these past months. I will cherish the memories made and miss you all!

This is "The Beav" signing off...

Skype Mobile Promotion: Skype Art

Good news Skype users! Pretty soon, you will be able to use this application anywhere. Skype has teamed up with Verizon Wireless to launch a new service called “Skype Mobile.” By purchasing select phones from the Blackberry and Android lines, you will be able to enjoy this service, just as you would on your computer.
To promote and hype this new service, they have set up a website which allows current Skype users to call five different artists, all located in different parts around the world. What they will do is transform the message you give them into their own unique piece of art. Want a portrait of that special woman in your life made out of chocolate? Simply call Phil Hansen and he’ll do it! (he’s made the Mona Lisa!) Try it out yourself!
All it takes is one click and you will be connected to these creative artists! Click below to see examples of what these artists have made!
Kelli Ryan (Silverton, Austrailia): Landscape artist
Tokyo Artists (Tokyo, Japan): Masked messenger
Paul Sivell (Antalya, Turkey): Tree carver
Gonzalo (Barcelona, Spain): Ring master
Phil Hansen (Minneapolis, USA): Avant garde
